Sophie Radic School – Lillestrøm, Norway
The Sophie Radic School in Lillestrøm, Norway, was completed in 2020 as one of the country’s largest educational buildings constructed with mass timber. With a gross building volume of 24,500 m², the project demonstrates how cross-laminated timber (CLT) and glulam can deliver both sustainability and modern functionality.
Designed by Arkitema with engineering and timber supply by Massivtre AS, the project relied on RICON S 290/80 VS connectors to secure primary structural joints. The connectors enabled precise beam-to-beam and beam-to-column connections, supporting efficient assembly and long-term durability.
Key Highlights:
Connector technology: RICON S 290/80 VS provided high load-bearing capacity for multi-story timber structures.
Construction efficiency: Fast installation of concealed connectors streamlined the building process.
Design features: Exposed timber interiors showcase the architectural design while maintaining structural integrity.
Scale: Gross building volume of 24,500 m² across multiple levels.
Use case: Public education facility designed for sustainability, durability, and long-term use.
This project highlights how RICON S connectors support the growing adoption of CLT and glulam in modern institutional buildings, offering strength, efficiency, and architectural flexibility.
