RICON S 80 x 200 – Beam Hanger w/ Screwed Collar Bolt

The RICON S 80 x 200 VK is a pre engineered beam connector for main and secondary beam connections in mass timber and heavy timber construction. It consists of two identical galvanized steel plates that hook together in a dovetail like motion with only 35 mm of insertion travel.

This VK version uses a screwed collar bolt, providing reliable mechanical engagement and a cost efficient alternative to the welded VS versions. The connector installs with structural CS screws driven perpendicular to the plate and can be installed either fully concealed in a routed recess or visible on the member surface. It is suitable for timber to timber, timber to steel, and timber to concrete connections in glulam, CLT, and other engineered timber systems.

Material and connection

• Galvanized steel connector plates

• For use with softwood glulam, solid timber, and hardwoods according to ETA limits

1. Prepare the recess

   • Rout the housing with CNC or routing jig to the specified depth and outline for concealed installation, or mount on the surface for visible installation.

2. Drill positioning holes

   • Drill the required positioning holes in main and secondary members according to the drilling template and installation drawings.

3. Install collar bolt and plates

   • Install the screwed collar bolt in the main member.

   • Fasten both connector plates using the specified 10 x 100 mm and 10 x 200 mm CS screws.

4. Engage the connection

   • Align the secondary beam and slide it into place until the plates are fully engaged over the 35 mm insertion path.

   • The connection is load bearing once fully seated.

For reduced member heights or special geometries, shear or tension reinforcement may be required based on engineering design.
