RICON S 60 x 200 – Beam Hanger w/ Screwed Collar Bolt

The RICON S 60 x 200 VK Fixed Beam Connector is a pre-engineered mass timber beam hanger designed for reliable timber-to-timber, timber-to-steel, and timber-to-concrete connections. This VK model uses a screwed collar bolt, offering stable load capacity and straightforward installation while accommodating moderate tolerance adjustment.

The connector consists of two identical galvanized steel plates that slide and hook together with only 35 mm of travel required to engage. Installation uses KNAPP SK structural screws driven perpendicular to the plate. The connector can be installed fully concealed using a routed recess or visibly on the beam surface. An optional locking clip is available to secure the connector against pull-out forces opposite the installation direction.

Material and Installation Requirements

• End-grain attachment: SK screws 8 × 160 mm (or 8 × 240 mm where permitted)

• Side-grain attachment: SK screws 8 × 80 mm

• Minimum timber width: 100 mm

• Three 5 mm positioning holes (depth 50 mm) required in both beams (per manual)

• Connector becomes load-bearing once engaged

• Concealed installation requires routing according to the milling patterns shown in pages 1–3 of the instruction manual

Shear Reinforcement Note

Pages 2–4 of the instruction manual specify that if the secondary beam height is below recommended values, shear reinforcement using fully threaded screws may be required. Verification must be performed by a structural engineer (EN 1995-1-1, NAD).

Installation

1. Cut the recess using CNC or the KNAPP MULTI F 40 routing jig.

2. Drill three ø 5 mm × 50 mm positioning holes in both main and secondary beams.

3. Install the connector plates using the specified KNAPP SK screws.

4. Fasten the screwed collar bolt into the main beam.

5. Slide the beams together until they fully lock into place.

Important:
For secondary beams installed between two fixed members, the recess must be milled through on the underside to allow engagement (per page 4 of the manual).
