Built in early 2019 for the Hahnenkamm ski race, the Mastercard VIP Lounge is a cross-laminated timber (CLT) structure with a gross building volume of 240 m². Designed as a temporary yet high-performance venue, the lounge provides premium hospitality in one of the most demanding alpine environments.

The timber structure was engineered for quick installation in winter conditions. MEGANT, RICON S, and WALCO V connectors were combined to secure primary load-bearing elements, prefabricated wall assemblies, and timber-to-concrete joints. The result was a structure that could be rapidly erected despite snow and cold temperatures, while still meeting strict safety and design requirements.

Key Highlights:

Connector technology: MEGANT for main load-bearing joints, RICON S for structural beam connections, and WALCO V for wall-to-foundation anchoring.
Construction method: Prefabricated timber modules assembled quickly in winter conditions.
Design features: Cross-laminated timber with insulated wall panels and a wooden façade.
Performance: Fast erection with concealed, high-capacity connectors that ensured stability under alpine weather.
Use case: Temporary VIP hospitality venue for international sports events.

This project demonstrates how KNAPP’s modular connector systems can be combined to deliver strength, speed, and adaptability in challenging construction environments.
