Warehouse Construction – Großarl, Salzburg

In 2012, a warehouse facility in Großarl, Salzburg was constructed as part of a biomass heating plant. The structure used glued laminated timber beams on reinforced concrete supports, connected with KNAPP’s MEGANT heavy-duty connectors.
The project was designed by Rohrmoser Plan, with structural engineering by Gerhard Hettegger and FS1 Fiedler Stöffler Ziviltechniker GmbH. Timber construction was carried out by Unterkofler Plan & Bau GmbH, while the builder was HHG Großarl.
Key highlights:
Connector technology: MEGANT was selected as the only connector able to handle the required 420 kN load. Its short 2 cm insertion path allowed beams to be set quickly without the risk of misalignment.
Efficient installation: A team installed 140 m³ of glulam beams in just three days using cranes, significantly faster than conventional steel fasteners.
Design flexibility: MEGANT allowed beams to be hung from above or below, avoiding complicated wall modifications and reducing assembly risk.
Speed & simplicity: With prefabrication and minimal tools required, the complete timber work was finished in only 14 days, saving both time and costs compared to traditional fastening methods.
Building scale: The facility spans 1,565 m² effective surface with a gross building volume of approx. 20,300 m³.
Fire safety: After installation, joints were enclosed with oak cladding to achieve a 30-minute fire resistance rating, meeting strict safety standards.
This project demonstrates how MEGANT connectors provide unmatched efficiency, safety, and load capacity in large-scale industrial timber construction.
