XXL Hiking Bench – Allgäu, Mittelberg

Home - Case Studies - Timber Construction - XXL Hiking Bench – Allgäu, Mittelberg

The XXL Hiking Bench in Allgäu, Mittelberg is the largest bench of its kind in Germany. Initiated by the AllgäuTopHotels cooperation, the project was built on a hillside with panoramic views of Neuschwanstein Castle and the Alpenkamm.

Constructed by Holzbau Lipp, the oversized bench measures more than 12 meters in length and 6 meters in height. It was later handed over to the Mittelberg Tourism Association free of charge, serving as both a tourist attraction and a symbol of regional craftsmanship.

Key highlights:

Connector technology: MEGANT connectors provided the heavy-duty load-bearing capacity, while RICON connectors allowed for quick and precise timber element assembly.
Design scale: At over 12 m × 6 m, the bench required careful engineering to ensure stability and durability in an outdoor environment.
Tourism impact: Positioned with a direct view of Neuschwanstein and the surrounding Alps, the project serves as a regional landmark and photo point.
Community contribution: Delivered as a public project to support local tourism.

This unique timber structure demonstrates how MEGANT and RICON connectors can be applied even in non-traditional builds, offering strength, speed, and reliability.
