McCube Modular House – Winklarn, Austria

Home - Case Studies - Prefabrication & Modular - McCube Modular House – Winklarn, Austria

In 2014, the first McCube modular house in the Mostviertel region of Austria was built in Winklarn for homeowner Martina Kies. The house was delivered as three prefabricated Cubes and assembled in only a few hours using WALCO V connectors.

The project was realized by McCube Homes GesmbH iG with timber construction from Fahrenberger GmbH. Each Cube rests on screw foundations, allowing the entire home to be relocated if desired. This flexibility reflects the philosophy behind McCube: mobile, modular living that can expand or adapt to changing needs.

Key highlights:

Rapid installation: The home was delivered and assembled in a single day. With prefabricated elements complete upon delivery, the owner could move in immediately.
Expandable system: Additional Cubes can be added later, whether for a new bedroom, office, or even integration into larger modular buildings like hotels and motels.
Cost efficiency: The finished house cost between €1,900 and €2,000 per square meter, offering a competitive alternative to traditional construction.
Sustainability: Each Cube is built with PEFC-certified timber from sustainably managed forests, insulated with natural wood fiber, and manufactured with formaldehyde-free adhesives.

This project demonstrates how WALCO V connectors support modern modular construction, providing precision and stability while enabling homes that are fast to build, cost-effective, and adaptable for the future.
