KNAPP‑Dowel 6 x 28 mm – Plastic Self‑Tightening Dowel

The KNAPP-Dowel 6×28 mm is the most compact version in the KNAPP-Dowel family, designed for fast and reliable assembly of smaller joints. Its threaded ribs and lengthwise grooves lock firmly into the borehole, eliminating the need for clamps and ensuring immediate load-bearing strength.

Made from weather-resistant POM plastic, the 6×28 mm dowel won’t shrink, swell, or rot, making it a dependable choice for both indoor and outdoor applications. Its shorter length is particularly well-suited for trims, light case goods, and precision joinery where material thickness is limited.

For permanent joints, use with KNAPP-Adhesive PU+ (Z011/1), which flows through the dowel’s grooves and holes for optimal distribution and anchoring.

Steps

1. Predrill boreholes (6 mm diameter recommended for insertion machines, or 15/64″ (5.9 mm) when inserting by hand for a tighter fit).

2. Optional: Apply KNAPP-Adhesive PU+ (Z011/1) into the borehole for a permanent bond.

3. Insert the dowel using a dowel insertion machine or hammer in by hand.

4. Assemble the workpiece with a rubber mallet.

Tips

• The KNAPP-Dowel grips best when the borehole is slightly smaller than the dowel.

• Through its oval groove design, pressure is applied to two sides of the borehole, making it especially effective in edge applications.

• Dowels can be screwed in and out due to their threaded ribs, which helps with adjustments or removals.

• Recommended borehole depth: approx. 30 mm.

• For CNC machining: chamfer melamine or laminate edges 0.5–1 mm for smoother insertion.
