Instructions
Steps
-
Mark and Drill the Handrail
-
Mark 3 mm (1/8 in) from the end of the rail.
-
Drill a 25 mm (1 in) diameter access hole to a depth of 7 mm (9/32 in).
-
Drill a 10 mm (3/8 in) hole to intersect the access hole.
-
Do not cut the rail angle until all boring is complete.
-
-
Cut the Rail Angle
-
After drilling, cut the angle of the handrail as required.
-
Deepen the 10 mm (3/8 in) hole once the angle is cut.
-
-
Install the Keyhole Disc
-
Drill a 25 mm (1 in) hole in the newel post to a depth of 7 mm (9/32 in).
-
Measure the intersection point (X) from the top of the rail to the center of the 10 mm hole.
-
Subtract 3 mm (1/8 in) from this measurement to mark the disc center.
-
Secure the keyhole disc with screws flush or slightly recessed in the post.
-
-
Assemble the Connector
-
Insert the gear housing onto the angled shaft.
-
Engage the connector tip into the keyhole disc.
-
The shaft has sufficient play for fine adjustment if trimming is required.
-
-
Tighten the Connection
-
Using a 5 mm hex bit or side ratchet tool, tighten the gear housing until the joint is secure.
-
Avoid using an impact driver to prevent damage from over-tightening.
-
-
Finish the Installation
-
Plug and sand the access hole for a seamless appearance.
-
Verify alignment and ensure a solid connection between rail and post.
-
Tips
-
Ideal for upper angled handrail joints; for bottom rail connections, use Zipbolt 11.550 Angled Railbolt.
-
Always check alignment before final tightening.
-
Apply glue in the handrail end if additional bonding strength is desired.
