Newel Post Installation with Improved Super UT Zipbolt

How To Install A Newel Post Using Zipbolt Super UT Post Fastener

How to Install a Newel Post on a Stair or Balcony using the ZIPBOLT Super UT

Instructions

Installation into Wood

  1. Mark and Drill

    • Drill a pilot hole of Ø 11–12 mm depending on wood hardness.

    • Ensure hole depth matches the full length of the threaded shaft.

  2. Install the Shaft

    • Screw in the shaft using a wrench or the Zipbolt 40.540 Deep Socket Tool.

    • Leave approximately 14 mm (9/16 in) shaft center exposed for housing alignment.

  3. Mount the Post

    • Position the newel post over the shaft.

    • Insert the diecast gear housing into the post and align over the thread.

  4. Tighten the Housing

    • Using a T40 Torx bit or 5 mm hex bit, tighten the gear housing with a cordless screwdriver.

    • Do not use an impact driver to avoid over-tightening.

  5. Final Check

    • Verify that the post is aligned and securely fastened.

Installation into Concrete

  1. Drill and Clean the Hole

    • Bore a hole slightly larger than the external thread and to the required depth.

    • Blow or vacuum all dust and debris from the hole.

  2. Apply Epoxy

    • Fill one-third to one-half of the hole with epoxy resin adhesive.

  3. Install the Shaft

    • Insert the Super UT shaft, ensuring correct height alignment.

    • Wipe away excess epoxy and allow to set per adhesive manufacturer’s instructions.

  4. Attach and Tighten

    • Once the epoxy has cured, assemble the post and tighten the gear housing as in the wood installation steps above.

  5. Finish

    • Plug the access hole if desired and confirm the connection is solid.

Tips

  • Always ensure correct shaft center alignment for tight gear engagement.

  • For concrete installations, use a high-quality structural epoxy.

  • Avoid overtightening to prevent gear housing damage.
