How it works

How To Connect Handrail Using The Zipbolt UT Railbolt

Instructions

Steps

  1. Prepare the Template

    • Cut a 5 mm wafer from a handrail to create a drilling template.

    • Mark a 2 mm (1/16 in) pilot hole at 24 mm (15/16 in) from the bottom of the rail.

  2. Drill the Rail and Fitting

    • Bore a 25 mm (1 in) diameter access hole on the bottom of the rail, 38 mm (1-1/2 in) from the end.

    • Drill a 10 mm (3/8 in) diameter hole into the end of the rail to a depth of 38 mm (1-1/2 in).

  3. Install the Screw Shaft

    • Screw the threaded shaft into the newel post using a wrench or the Zipbolt 40.520 Deep Socket Tool.

    • Ensure approximately 48 mm (1-7/8 in) of the bolt protrudes.

  4. Position the Gear Drive Housing

    • Insert the diecast gear housing into the 25 mm (1 in) access hole on the underside of the rail.

    • Align the Open Channel slot with the threaded shaft for smooth engagement.

  5. Tighten the Connection

    • Use a 5 mm hex bit with a low-torque drill or Allen key to secure the housing over the shaft.

    • Do not use an impact driver.

  6. Finish and Plug

    • Insert a 25 mm (1 in) wooden plug into the access hole and sand flush for a clean finish.

Tips

  • Ideal for connecting handrails at 90°–45° angles.

  • Apply a small amount of wood glue before inserting the wooden plug.

  • Always verify alignment before final tightening for a clean, professional fit.
