Tread to Stringer Connections
easy-con®
Stair Hardware for Tread to Stringer Connections
Easy-con® is a universal and non-visible fastener for the assembly of staircases. The connector can be disassembled, and easily re-tightened at any time. Easy-con® can be used in all wood materials and provides a high degree of pre-manufacturing. It consists of high-quality steel, a tightening component, set screw, bolt, and a screw-in dowel. The load-bearing of the insert is 1,500 pounds (7 kN) for wood, such as beech, and can take pull-force up to 675 pounds (3 kN).
With easy-con®, visible screws, unpleasant looking cover caps, and visible threaded rods are a thing of the past. Apart from a small screw, which allows the connection to be disassembled, a button plug can be used to cover the hole so that no connector part is visible.
DUO System
Slide-in | Stair Hardware for Tread to Stringer Connections
The DUO-System provides the optical qualities of traditional frame joints while being engineered in an innovative manner for fast processing and application. For example, the DUO 90/20 and the DUO 100/15 are ideal for tread to stringer connections, and like all KNAPP connectors, they are non-visible, can be disassembled, and are self-tightening.
The DUO-System connector consists of two identical connector parts that are non-visible. One is installed into a mortise or rebate in the stair tread or stringer using our custom Routing Jig. The other half is installed into the face of the wood component. The head of the screw catches the dovetail hook making a secure connection for stair treads and post to stringer applications. The DUO System is made of high strength blue-galvanized weather-resistant steel, and is manufactured in Austria.
TREPPO
Leveling Screw | Stair Tread Installation
The TREPPO is an adjustable leveling screw for stair treads. It is most commonly used in commercial and residential buildings where wood treads are attached on top of the concrete stairs.
First, drill your holes into the concrete stair. Using out KNAPP® Adhesive PU+, glue the hex nut into the concrete stair and screw in the threaded bolt. Using the treppo center punch, you can transfer the center marks to the bottom of your wooden stair tread. Lastly, glue the threaded rod into the bottom of the tread and simply tighten the hex nut for final installation.
Post to Stringer Connectors
ZIPBOLT™️ 90 KD
Handrail and Post to Stringer Connections
The ZIPBOLT™️ 90 KD connector is a practical solution for handrails and post to stringer connections. With this connector, the difficult and time-consuming use of an open ended wrench is eliminated. The 90 KD requires no additional tightening while the parts are connected. Tensioning tools often cause damage and a considerable amount of extra work – this is not necessary when using the ZIPBOLT™️. The fastener connects and holds the components in position; easy disassembly is possible at any time.
The ZIPBOLT™️ 90 KD Frame Connector consists of a threaded rod, which has a metric fine thread and ensures an optimal force transmitting gear drive. This connector also consists of a Rampa insert with external coarse threads for inserting into wood and metric internal threads to receive the threaded rod. The mounting of the connector is very fast and easy to install with a cordless drill or even a hand-held screwdriver. Frames from 7/8″ (22 mm) to 1-1/2″ (38 mm) board thickness can be connected in just a few seconds.

Handrail Connectors
DUO 30/35 Hook Connectors
Hook-in Stair Hardware | Handrail Connector
The DUO Hook Connector is commonly used to attach handrails by simply hooking them together. DUO consists of two identical round shaped steel brackets that hook into each other in a dovetail-like manner. It comes in two sizes, 30 mm and 35 mm, both two different versions. DUO mL = with sideways tolerance (+/- 1/8″) and the DUO oL = without sideways tolerance.
First, install your connectors to the components and then simply slide them into place. The DUO 35 fastener is installed to the component with Euro-screws, is ideal for the industrial use with a CNC-routing machine and especially suited to mount windows on site.
Features and Benefits:
- Simple – easy to mount by just snapping components in place.
- Non-visible – recessed and concealed fasteners.
- Efficient – reduces labor costs.
- Low recess depth – only 3 mm (1/8″).
- Versatile – two sizes: DUO 30 = ø 30 mm and DUO 35 = ø 35 mm
- Two versions – mL (with sideways tolerance) and oL (without sideways tolerance)
- Fast – only 15 mm (9/16″) hook way and can be used with standard screws.
UNO 30 Hook Connectors
Hook-in Stair Hardware | Handrail Connector
The UNO 30 connector set consists of a round stainless steel bracket with a V-shaped receiver socket and a CS-screw, including a washer. Easy and fast assembly is guaranteed, as the generously V-shaped receiver socket receives the CS-screw head when mounted. Optionally, a lock made out of spring steel can be added to latch the connector. Because of the bracket’s round shape, it can be easily fitted into a 30 mm / 7mm deep rebate. As the CS-screw is mounted to the component, the washer is there to perfectly set it to the right height to fit perfectly in the bracket, while still giving the ability to adjust in order to compensate any differences in dimensions. Apart from its use in window and door manufacturing, UNO 30 can be used for applications such as interior wall panels, baseboards, moldings, handrails and much more.
Features and Benefits:
- Simple and fast – snap in place
- Concealed – not visible
- Self-tightening – through “dovetail” principle
- Safe – latch the connection
- Flexible – used for versatile applications
- Strong – holds up to 150kg/1.5 kN
